A glossary of colors.
Color Sample
A list of color swatches that have been sorted and organized by collecting various colors such as fabrics, papers, and paints.
This site collects colors mainly used on the WEB and makes color samples.
Three Attributes of Color
The three attributes of color are the elements of "Hue," "Saturation," and "Brightness."
Hue is the hue, saturation is the vividness of the color, and lightness is the brightness of the color.
In the case of chromatic colors, they all have these three elements.
Hue
Colors such as red, blue, and green change the visible color such as red and blue as the hue changes.
Saturation
Saturation is the vividness of a color. The higher the saturation, the more vivid the color, and the less saturated the color becomes muddy and gray.
Brightness
Brightness is the brightness of a color. When the brightness is high, it becomes bright and close to white, and when it is low, it becomes black.
Tone
Tones are a combination of color saturation and lightness.
Achromatic Color
Achromatic color is a color that is a mixture of white and black.
Chromatic color
Achromatic colors are all colors except achromatic colors, and have all hue, saturation, and lightness.
Similar Color
Similar colors are similar colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel.
If you use similar colors, the whole thing will be cohesive.
Complementary Color
Complementary colors are colors that are in opposite positions on the color wheel.
If you use complementary colors, they will complement each other and become a conspicuous color.
Warm Color
Warm colors are colors that give a warm impression, and are felt from colors such as red, yellow, and orange.
Cool Color
Cool colors are colors that give a cold impression, and are felt from colors such as blue and light blue.
Expansion Color
An expanded color is a color that expands and looks larger than the actual area.
There are bright colors and warm colors.
Shrink Color
Shrink color is a color that looks smaller than the actual area.
There are dark colors and cool colors.
Advance Color
Advance colors are colors that look like they are in front of you.
There are bright colors and warm colors.
Retreat Color
The receding color is the color that appears to be behind.
There are dark colors and cool colors.
RGB
RGB is one of the color expression methods, and it is expressed by mixing three colors of Red, Green, and Blue.
CMYK
CMYK is one of the color expression methods, and it is expressed by mixing Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (Key plate).
When only CMY ink is mixed, it was difficult to express beautiful black, so black is matched.
HSV
HSV is a color space expressed by three elements: hue (Hue), saturation (Saturation, Chroma), and brightness (Value, Lightness, Brightness).
Subtractive Color Mixing
Subtractive color mixing expresses colors by combining the three colors of Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.
When these three colors are combined, it becomes black and is said to be the "three primary colors of colorants".
Additive Color Mixing
Additive mixing expresses colors by adding and combining three colors, Red, Green, and Blue.
When these three colors are mixed, it becomes white, and the colors of displays such as TVs and personal computers are made by this additive mixing.
In addition, these three colors are called "three primary colors of light" and "three primary colors of colored light".
Grayscale
Grayscale is a method of expressing the difference in lightness of gray from white to black.
It is used on computer screens and photographs.
2 gradations
2 gradation is a method to express with only 2 colors of white and black.
Contrast
Contrast is the difference in hue, saturation, and lightness.
Color Wheel
The color wheel is a circular arrangement of changed hues.
The color change is continuous, but it is also expressed separately for each color.
